This tree is a direct descendant of a tree grown from a cutting brought from the Republic of Cyprus in the later 1940s. Marina's grandmother took cuttings from her fig tree on Cyprus and sewed them into the lining of her raincoat as the family emigrated to the United States. The U.S. authorities did not find the cuttings. The cuttings were planted at the family's new home, and flourished. The tree planted here by Marina and Chris was grown from a cutting from one of the original trees.
The tree was donated and planted by Marina and Chris so its fruit and shade may be enjoyed by those who pass it by.
